Sony Firmware Updates Released Spring 2024

Sony A1 firmware Version 2.00 highlights

Sony’s flagship Alpha 1 camera receives important feature updates in version 2.00 firmware, including:

Version 3.00 firmware for Sony’s video-centric A7S III includes:

  • Free DCI 4K 24 p license download with true 24p frame rate and 1/96s, 1/48s and 1/24s shutter speed settings
  • AF assist feature for focus flexibility while recording
  • Time code sync compatibility

Camera Authenticity Compliance

These Sony firmware updates introduce C2PA compliance for all three cameras. Content authenticity is becoming increasingly relevant as AI manipulated imagery becomes more prevalent.

Sony is a steering committee member of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), which is a Joint Development Foundation project, formed through an alliance between Adobe, Arm, Intel, Microsoft and Truepic.

Ensuring media autenticity

Media provenance is ensured by binding provenance information to the media using Cryptography, which stays with the media throughout its history, or journey. This includes initial creation information and every edit made, with all actions and history, creating a tamper-evident record for inspection and validation.

The C2PA standard works with photos, videos and audio files, and anyone can check a piece of content by clicking a content authenticity icon, which shows all providence information, plus any additional edits, which may have been made along the way.

For creators, this also ensures that your work is recorded as being your own, which helps against image or content theft and duplication.
