Sigma 24mm f/3.5 DG Contemporary Lens Silver for L Mount Summary

Weighing in at just 225g, the Sigma 24mm f/3.5 DG Contemporary Lens Silver for L Mount is the smallest and lightest wide-angle prime from Sigma’s redesigned I Series range. It provides full-frame coverage in an ultra-portable form, combining high optical performance with a high-quality build, which is ideal for photographers who value both image quality and lightweight handling. The 24mm focal length suits classic wide-angle subjects including landscapes, architecture, weddings, street photography, and interiors, while its compact size makes it an excellent prime for travel and everyday shooting.

The optical design includes 10 elements in 8 groups, incorporating three aspherical and one SLD element to minimise chromatic aberrations and deliver high sharpness across the frame. With an f/3.5 maximum aperture, natural colour reproduction, and well-controlled flare and ghosting, this lens produces excellent results across a variety of lighting conditions.

As part of Sigma’s redesigned I Series of Contemporary lenses, the 24mm f/3.5 features an all-metal construction with precision-milled controls, including a smooth aperture ring, tactile focus ring, and durable lens hood. A magnetic metal lens cap is included alongside a standard plastic cap, improving usability when working in the field. This L Mount lens is compatible with mirrorless cameras from Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma, combining portability, performance, and premium build in a single newly updated optic.

Sigma 24mm f/3.5 DG Contemporary Lens Silver for L Mount in More Detail

Ultra-Small, Ultra-Light, Ultra-Sharp

The lens weighs only 225g and measures 48.8mm, which means that the Sigma 24mm f/3.5 is the most compact wide-angle prime in the I Series. Despite its small size, it has a full-frame image circle and outstanding image quality, which is ideal for photographers who want lightweight kit which still delivers impressive results.

The versatile 24mm focal length is a classic range for subjects such as landscapes, interiors, weddings, street photography, and architecture, while its portability makes it an excellent option for travel, environment portraits and everyday snapshots.

Robust Build Quality

The lens has an all-metal construction with precision-cut aluminium parts, creating a premium feel with a durable finish. The knurled design on the aperture ring, focus ring, and lens hood ensures comfortable and durable handling, while the supplied magnetic metal lens cap adds extra convenience alongside the included standard plastic cap.

Sigma has used their classic coated brass lens mount, which improves strength, while the surrounding rubber seal provides a degree of resistance to dust and moisture when working in outdoor environments.

High-Performance Optics

The optical formula in this model comprises 10 elements in 8 groups, including three aspherical and one SLD element, which reduce chromatic aberrations and maintain sharpness across the frame.

Flare and ghosting are also well controlled, even when shooting in direct sunlight, ensuring vibrant colour and high-contrast results. Vignetting is minimal with this wide angle, even when shooting at the maximum f/3.5 aperture, while colour rendition and contrast are natural with any subject.

Superb Close-Up Ability

The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of just 10.8cm from sensor to subject and an impressive 1:2 magnification ratio, which is half life-size. This provides the flexibility to capture detailed, macro-styled wide-angle images, extending the creative possibilities for photography and video.

Ultra-Portable Design

At only 225g, this lens is around 140g lighter than the Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary, which is perfect foro photographers who need a lightweight prime for extended shooting or when travelling and hiking distances.

Magnetic Lens Cap Holder

Sigma offers an optional magnetic lens cap holder accessory, which clips securely onto clothing or a bag strap. This provides a convenient way to store the magnetic metal lens cap when shooting, ensuring it stays safe and accessible.

Internal Focus

The internal focusing system uses movable internal elements to achieve focus without altering the length of the lens barrel. This design helps maintain a stable centre of gravity, making the lens easier to handle during use and when attaching accessories like filters.

Front Filter Thread

A unified 55mm front filter thread allows the attachment of circular filters and compatible holders, giving photographers flexibility when working with polarisers, ND filters, and other creative tools across all of the updated Contemporary primes, including the 17mm f/4 DG Contemporary and 90mm f/2.8 DG Contemporary.

AF/MF Switch

A dedicated AF/MF switch on the lens barrel provides quick control over focusing modes, enabling users to transition smoothly between autofocus and manual focus when needed.

Versatile Mount

While made for full-frame L-Mount cameras, the lens is compatible with APS-C models, offering an equivalent field of view of approximately 36mm. This makes it suitable for both full-frame and crop-sensor systems.

Sigma I Series Range

As part of Sigma’s I Series, the lens shares a consistent optical character, high quality build, and usability with other models in the range. For photographers using multiple I Series primes, the matched colour rendering, bokeh, and handling provide a cohesive shooting experience.
