Multi-camera Touchscreen Switching – Live Mix and Record Up to 5 Streams

The Classic’s capabilities extend to multi-camera setups, where it can act as a portable live switcher and recorder. With four SDI inputs, users can record up to four separate 1080p60 streams and switch between them in real-time using the responsive touchscreen. The resulting mixed output can be displayed live, either via HDMI or SDI. Asynchronous switching ensures that locked sources aren’t required, allowing for the use of more cost-effective cameras. Each stream is saved as a separate ISO with embedded audio for post-production refinement.

Perfect Exposure and Colour – Fine-Tune Every Detail While You Shoot

The Shogun Classic offers precision monitoring with its dynamic zoned backlight, delivering richer blacks and brighter highlights. Advanced HDR waveform tools help ensure accurate exposure, colour, and white balance. With features such as custom 3D LUTs, false colour profiles, and adjustable focus peaking, filmmakers gain full control of their footage. Additionally, tools like RGB parade and vector-scopes provide essential data for achieving accurate colours on calibrated monitors.

Compatibility Across Cameras

The Shogun Classic records ProRes RAW with high-end cinema cameras such as the Canon C300 series, Panasonic EVA1, and Sony FS5 II. It can even elevate older models like the Sony FS700R, enabling 4Kp60 and 2Kp240 RAW capture.

For DSLR or mirrorless camera users, the external recorder captures up to 4Kp60 in Apple ProRes or AVID DNx formats, ensuring easy editing with wide dynamic range. High-end cinema cameras like the ARRI, RED, and Sony Venice also benefit from accurate HDR monitoring and extensive range of tools.

Unlock the Full Potential of Your Camera

Capture pristine sensor data with ProRes RAW up to 5.7kp30, 4kp60 DCI/HD, and 2kp240 DCI/HD. The Shogun Classic’s ProRes compression also makes RAW image data more manageable, with smaller files that are easier to transfer, edit and grade. ProRes RAW is compatible with leading editing platforms like Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, and Avid Media Composer*, offering a streamlined post-production workflow.

*Adobe and Avid support expected Q2 2020.

Dolby Vision – Instantly Deliver HDR to Your Clients

The Atomos Shogun Classic allows you to view content with Dolby Vision HDR in real-time, directly from any HDR camera to a compatible Dolby Vision display. This gives an accurate representation of your video, offering greater confidence in exposure and lighting adjustments on-set. The live HDR feedback also accelerates post-production, ensuring that you and your clients can preview the final results as they are being captured.

User-Friendly Atomos – Intuitive Touchscreen Operation

A touchscreen interface makes accessing advanced functions like scopes, zoom, calibration, and focus tools very straightforward. For instant review, users can play back their footage on-screen or on an external Dolby Vision display, even viewing it in slow motion for detailed analysis.

Comprehensive Audio and Connectivity

Balanced audio is supported with 48V stereo mics via an XLR breakout cable, while digital audio from HDMI or SDI is recorded across up to 12 channels. A 3.5mm headphone jack provides real-time monitoring. Shogun Classic also excels in connectivity, supporting cross-conversion between HDMI 2.0 and a wide range of SDI formats, including single and dual link SDI, for maximum versatility.

Quad SDI and HDMI 2.0 In/Out

Connect any SDI or HDMI device, with seamless cross-conversion for recording and monitoring, eliminating the need for additional converters.
