Choosing the ideal paper that will show off your images in the best light can be a difficult decision so we have outlined some of the types available:
Lustre brings out tonal values with black and white images or soft focus photographs. Many landscape photographers choose lustre as a balance between gloss and matt which brings out highlights and rich colours.
Gloss paper highlights vibrant or vivid colours, defining contrast and saturation. Portraits and snapshots are often best viewed in glossy finishes.
Matte papers reveal a luxurious softness to images and are often considered ‘fine art’ finishes with a visible fine texture.
Another element when choosing the ideal paper is the paper weight. Typically normal document weight is around 80gsm or 90gsm, while photo paper tends to be anything from 140gsm up to 400gsm or more. GSM is short for ‘Grams per Square Metre’ and is a way of indicating how heavy the paper is - an indication of quality and flexibility. Photo printers of all sizes up to large format can generally accept most paper weights.
So whether you’re looking for fine art archival photo paper from Hahnemuele, or high gloss paper from Epson or Canon, at Park Cameras we have an extensive stock of all kinds of paper ranging in sizes from 6x4 to A4, A3, A2 and even large format paper. We also provide replacement printer inks. We recommend keeping an eye on ink levels when printing lots of photographs, as running out can be time consuming and frustrating.
