Fluid Video Tripod Heads

On the whole, a purpose designed video head will have well damped movements from a fluid chamber and longer arm handles for smooth panning shots. This provides the videographer with exceptionally smooth movements for their sequences, when compared with a regular ball head for example. When investing in a video-specific head to fit with any tripod (including purpose-designed video tripods), there are a couple of important considerations that should be made.

Other than budgetary considerations the most important factor when buying a tripod head for capturing video is the weight capacity. If your camera and lens combination exceeds the maximum weight limit of the head you run the risk of damaging it and not achieving the smooth panning shots which they are capable of. Using a cine lens with a heavier weight DSLR camera for example, can load the supporting equipment. Select a safe weight tolerance to enjoy years of trouble-free service.

In addition to the weight capacity limit, a consideration is the counterbalance capability. One should be able to set the counterbalance on the pan head so that any tilting motions feel natural and you are not fighting against the weight of the camera. This again enables smoother video sequences regardless whether using a regular or cine lens. Why not check our used tripod and head equipment stock as fluid video heads periodically become available as customers sell or trade-in their unused gear.
