Leica Releases Firmware for Entire SL3 Range

Leica has announced a comprehensive firmware rollout for its SL3 camera range. Going live worldwide on 25 June 2026 at 2:00 PM BST, the update introduces professional video tools, expanded autofocus capabilities, and support for new optics.

There are two update versions: v4.2.0 for the SL3 and SL3-S, and v4.2.1 which ships with the newly released SL3-P.

Shared Key Features

Both firmware versions bring a major suite of upgrades, including:

  • False Colour Monitoring: A professional video exposure tool that overlays colour values onto the Live View to judge brightness and protect skin tones.
  • HDMI Mirroring: Displays the camera’s on-screen user interface directly onto external monitors.
  • Expanded Autofocus: Enhanced vehicle subject detection for tracking moving targets.
  • Lens Support: Full compatibility for the new Leica Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH.
  • Operational Refinements: Quicker video settings navigation, a new full-screen playback mode, and faster electronic shutter response during continuous shooting.

SL3-P Exclusive (v4.2.1)

The premium SL3-P has a few exclusive, high-performance enhancements:

  • High-Speed Shooting: 15fps and 25fps 12-bit burst modes.
  • Thermal Management: HDMI behaviour specifically designed to reduce heat build-up during extended external monitoring.

Bug Fixes and Stability

SL3 and SL3-S

  • Fixes for profile importing, lens profile corrections, and audio metering.

How to Install (Available 25 June)

Leica recommends updating via the Leica FOTOS app for the smoothest process. Alternatively, you can download the firmware files directly from the Leica Support Website and install them yourself.

Important Installation Safety

Ensure your camera battery is charged to 100% before starting. A loss of power during a firmware flash can cause issues. Backup your camera settings and profiles before running the update.
