Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II Zoom Lens Summary

The second-generation Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II Zoom Lens has been upgraded to resolve 40+ megapixel high-resolution sensors, which are now common across Fujifilm’s mirrorless camera range.

Fujifilm has taken the opportunity to redesign this lens completely, which is now 16% smaller, 37% lighter at just 410g, and more compact than the original model. Despite this reduction in size, the X mount lens includes an advanced optical formula that delivers high levels of detail with image quality comparable to a prime lens, while being suitable for both stills and video recording.

New features include a de-clickable aperture ring for silent exposure adjustments and an 11-blade diaphragm for even smoother, more rounded bokeh and distinct blurry backgrounds. The optical formula also benefits from additional special lens elements, resulting in fewer artefacts and greater resolving power for your images.

Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II in More Detail

Enhanced Image Quality

The updated XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR II includes 16 elements in 11 groups, featuring 3 ED, 1 Super ED, and 4 aspherical elements. This optical configuration offers superior results compared to the previous model, already known for its high-quality rendering. The lens is now better equipped to resolve the 40+ megapixel capabilities of the X-Trans CMOS 5HR sensor, while being significantly lighter at 410g versus 655g.

11-Blade Aperture Renders Rounded Bokeh

This second-generation lens follows in the footsteps of the XF 56mm F/1.2 R WR which was Fujifilm’s first to introduce an 11-bladed aperture design. This delivers beautifully rounded bokeh even at narrower apertures such as f/4 or f/5.6. Minimal aberrations and distractions are rendered by the design, ensuring that out-of-focus areas remain smooth and pleasing.

When shooting wide open, the XF 16-55mm F2.8 renders excellent subject separation with silky-smooth defocus, allowing your subject to stand out against a beautifully blurred background.

Optimised for Hybrid Creators

The de-clickable aperture ring allows for silent adjustments, making this lens perfect for both stills and video content. A linear AF motor ensures silent and fast focusing, and the lens features customisable manual focus (MF) rotation, which can be adjusted between 60º and 900º, for personalised control. Higher 0.21x magnification in this generation lens helps to enlarge subjects in the frame, improving your closeup compositions and providing greater versatility for creative shots.

Built for Outdoor Content Creation

The XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR II is sealed in 12 points to protect against dust and moisture, making it perfect for shooting in tough conditions, even in temperatures as low as -10°C. A fluorine coating on the front element also repels water, fingerprints, and dirt, reducing the need for cleaning, while keeping image quality high.
