Nikon Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 Lens Summary
Arriving as the most compact model in the entire range is the full frame FX Nikon Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 Lens for mirrorless users. As a fixed focal width 28mm prime (or 42mm mounted on crop sensor DX cameras), it offers users the ability to capture wide angle street photography, environmental portraits and landscapes as well as making an excellent walk-around lens to shoot all day.

Our Verdict
We’re seeing a number of new lenses appearing for the Z System following the successful launches of both full frame FX and crop sensor DX mirrorless cameras like the beautiful Nikon Z fc. The Nikon Z 28mm f/2.8 Lens is just such a lens and whilst a prime 28mm might not be on your radar we think it should be. The wide angle offers you an excellent focal width that can be trained on a wide variety of subjects, as shown in these sample images. It’s clearly ideal for traditional wide subjects like interiors, landscapes and architecture, however it also offers the opportunity to capture low distortion environmental portraits, food shots and street photography to name a few.
It’s the smallest and lightest Z lens at the time of launch too, which means you can thrown it in your bag or even keep it in a pocket until something catches your eye. Despite this size the optics are great, with aspherical elements to control aberrations and high levels of detail visible across the frame.
Videographers and story tellers will love the minimal focus breathing and if you use Autofocus the AF motor on this compact lens is a joy. It’s fast and extremely quiet, perfect for video and stills captures. It’s great to see Nikon releasing such affordable options as this for the mirrorless system, particularly when it might just become one of the favourite lenses you own.
