Sony A7 V Camera with 24-70mm GM II Lens Kit in More Detail
The Sony A7 V is Sony’s most advanced mid-range full-frame hybrid camera, sitting below the flagship Alpha models while inheriting many of their performance features. The new partially stacked sensor allows for faster readout than a conventional CMOS design, reducing rolling shutter and enabling high-speed burst shooting with full AF and AE support.
Autofocus is a major upgrade, with processor-based AI calculations enabling improved subject recognition, pose estimation, and more reliable tracking across a wider range of subjects. This benefits both stills photographers working in fast-paced environments and videographers who rely on continuous subject tracking.
In-body image stabilisation has been improved to provide up to 7.5 stops of compensation in the centre of the frame, helping when shooting handheld in low light or at longer focal lengths. Handling has also been refined with a deeper grip, a fully articulated 4-axis LCD screen, and dual USB-C ports for power delivery, live streaming, and workflow flexibility.
The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II complements the camera with fast, quiet autofocus, reduced focus breathing, and high optical performance across the zoom range. Its lighter weight and compact size make it easier to use on gimbals or during long shooting days, while weather sealing supports professional use in challenging conditions.
What sets the Sony A7 V apart?
Sony has refined the A7 series body design with well-placed controls and its most intuitive menu system to date, making it quicker to adjust settings using the touchscreen, including a dedicated vertical interface when the camera is rotated. When paired with CFexpress Type A cards, the buffer clears rapidly, allowing sustained burst shooting even when recording full-resolution RAW files.
The new partially stacked sensor also brings noticeably improved rolling shutter control. This makes high-speed electronic shutter shooting genuinely usable at up to 30fps, where slower sensor designs can still show distortion or artefacts with fast-moving subjects.
Real word implications
One of the most practical improvements for both new and existing Sony users is the extended battery life, which helps the A7 V cope better with long shooting days. Combined with improved heat management, this allows longer continuous recording times before thermal limits are reached, even when filming at 4K 60p using the full sensor width.
These changes may appear incremental on paper, but in real use they reduce interruptions, improve reliability, and make the camera better suited to sustained hybrid shooting.
Who this kit is for (and who it isn’t)
With advanced video features, high-resolution stills and fast burst rates, this kit suits demanding users who regularly photograph moving subjects, want flexibility for cropping, and also capture video content, whether for personal projects or client work. It is less suitable for absolute beginners, who may be better served by a more straightforward camera such as the Sony A6400 or similar models.
The included FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II delivers professional image quality with a constant fast aperture, which is useful for shallow depth of field and low-light shooting. Photographers who prioritise reach and everyday convenience over aperture speed may find the A7 V Camera with 24-105mm G Lens a better match for general use and travel photography.

Our Verdict
This is one of the biggest upgrades the A7 range has ever seen with enhanced speed, usability and handling. A new sensor and processor deliver the best performance yet from this series, which is Sony’s most well-rounded hybrid camera for creators of all experience levels.
Combined with the 24-70mm GM II lens, the kit is a professional-ready setup, which is capable of tackling weddings, events, portraiture, commercial, documentary and video projects.
Autofocus has been significantly upgraded with new subject types, improved tracking and faster calculations. These support advanced capabilities like blackout-free burst shooting at up to 30fps, along with modes such as Pre-Capture and Speed Boost, all inherited from the flagship Alpha 1 II.
Video specs have also levelled up, with 4K 120p (cropped), 4K 60p full-frame, and a choice of codecs, LUT imports, Flexible Framing and other video-first tools for solo creators. Stills photographers gain new modes too, including Pixel Shift Multi Shooting, Composite RAW, 14-bit RAW and Lightweight RAW for smaller file sizes.
Stabilisation is improved by up to two stops, which helps considerably when shooting handheld. An updated grip feels better in the hand, battery life is improved, and the body now includes two USB-C ports for power delivery, gimbal use, live streaming or general workflow improvements.
Whether you’re new to the Sony E-mount or considering an upgrade, this is one of the most significant improvements that the A7 series has ever had. With the 24-70mm GM II lens, this kit provides a truly powerful setup for hybrid stills and video at any level.
