Sony FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G Lens Summary
Loaded with the latest features, the Sony FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G Lens is an ultra wide angle zoom for full-frame Sony alpha cameras. It pairs well with the recently released Sony FE 24-50mm F/2.8 G Lens, sharing its lightweight and portable build, without compromising on versatility and G-Series image quality Sony is known for.
The unique 16-25mm zoom range is ideal for a variety of content styles, including landscape photography and interiors, vlogging, video and travel. It can also be used as an everyday lens for snapshots, thanks to the 409g weight and compact design, for which Sony E mount lenses have become so well known.
Dual focus motors ensure incredibly responsive and accurate autofocus, and the FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G lens is able to maintain 30fps continuous burst, and 120p when recording 4K video. Whether shooting with the flagship A1 camera or a versatile hybrid like the A7C II, this is a fast focusing lens for any situation.
With a close minimum focus distance of 0.18m at the wide end and 0.2m at the 25mm end, this lens facilitates dynamic compositions and engaging close-up stills and videos. It excels in video recording, thanks to well-managed focus breathing and breathing compensation compatibility with compatible camera bodies.
Additionally, it supports active mode image stabilisation and features a de-clickable aperture ring for silent exposure adjustments, enhancing its versatility and performance for video.

Sony FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G Lens in More Detail
F/2.8 in a lightweight package
With an f/2.8 constant aperture the Sony FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G offers similar light gathering capabilities as the 16-35mm F/2.8 GM II without the associated price or additional weight. It also outperforms zooms such as the FE 20-70mm F/4 G Lens, which features an f/4 maximum aperture and is also marginally heavier.
This ensures that you can bring the 16-25mm f/2.8 G anywhere, anytime, and capture broad scenes and creative images.

High quality optical design
With both ED and aspherical glass elements the 16-25mm lens is able to achieve excellent results, with well controlled aberrations and image artefacts. Sony has also included an 11-blade aperture diaphragm, which renders smooth defocus areas in the image, perfect for video and shallower depth of field photos.
Fast and precise autofocus
Two linear AF motors guarantee that the 16-25mm f/2.8 lens is an excellent option for both stills and moviemaking. The low vibration focus drive coupled with an internal focus mechanism move the middle optical groups quickly and smoothly.
This layout allows the lens to maintain focus tracking with compatible bodies at blistering speeds of up to 30fps, maximising the performance of high-end cameras. Likewise, video performance maintains 120p at 4K resolution, where focus is critical as the camera tracks a subject.

Perfect for video creators
The Sony 16-25mm f/2.8 lens is equipped with several features aimed at enhancing video performance. These include its wide f/2.8 aperture for low-light shooting and depth of field control, dual linear AF motors for swift and silent autofocus, and compatibility with breathing compensation and active stabilisation for smooth footage.
Additionally, its de-clickable aperture switch facilitates silent exposure adjustments during filming, making it an exceptional choice for videographers seeking top-tier optical performance.
Robust build quality
A dust and moisture resistant design provides additional reliability when shooting outdoors. Likewise, the front element is Fluorine coated, reducing maintenance thanks to repelling fingerprints, dust, water and oil from the surface.

Our Verdict
Sony hit a sweet spot with this ultra wide zoom, which is uniquely positioned as a lens that’s just right for a number of applications. It is the epitome of ultra wide versatility, making it an indispensable tool for photographers and videographers who capture content with a wide field of view. Despite being compact and lightweight, the zoom lens boasts a fast constant aperture of f/2.8, ensuring excellent performance in low light and offering beautiful bokeh effect thanks to its 11-blade circular aperture design. Equipped with dual linear AF motors, it also achieves fast and precise autofocus, making it ideal for capturing both stills and dynamic videos.
Further enhancing its video capabilities, the lens is compatible with breathing compensation and active stabilisation features, ensuring smooth and stabilised footage. A de-clickable aperture switch allows for silent exposure adjustments during recording, cementing it as a preferred choice for video production. Its compact design does not compromise on durability, featuring a dust and moisture-resistant construction along with a fluorine-coated front element to withstand challenging shooting environments.
The lens also excels in close-up photography, allowing for engaging compositions with its close minimum focus distance, while the compact 67mm filter thread offers additional creative possibilities. In summary, the Sony FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G Lens stands out as a versatile, high-quality lens that meets the demands of enthusiast, and professional creators, with G-Series image quality and everyday usability in a robust package.
