Sony RX10 V Bridge Camera Summary
The Sony RX10 V is Sony’s latest flagship bridge camera, pairing a 20.1MP one-inch stacked Exmor RS sensor with the ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm f/2.4-4 lens in a single fixed-lens body. It sits between the pocket-sized RX100 series and premium full-frame RX1 models, combining an extensive zoom range with AI-powered subject recognition, continuous shooting up to 30fps and advanced 4K video for birds, wildlife, sport, travel and outdoor photography. For photographers moving up from a phone, compact camera or older bridge model, it offers a substantial step forward in speed, video capability and workflow without the cost, weight or complexity of an interchangeable lens system.
What's New
The RX10 V is the first new RX10 model since the RX10 IV, bringing Sony’s latest imaging technologies to its premium bridge platform while retaining the proven ZEISS 24-600mm lens and one-inch stacked sensor. Rather than redesigning the camera, Sony has focused development on processing, subject tracking, video capability and day-to-day operation, adding a BIONZ XR processor, dedicated AI Processing Unit, enhanced Real-time Recognition AF, 4K/120p recording, an upgraded electronic viewfinder, USB-C connectivity and 5GHz Wi-Fi while preserving the convenience of its integrated zoom.
Sony RX10 V Bridge Camera In More Detail
Premium Bridge Camera
The RX10 V continues Sony's bridge series, retaining the ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm f/2.4-4 lens that has defined the range. Rather than replace an already well-regarded optical design, Sony has focused development on processing, subject tracking, video capability and handling, giving existing users a familiar shooting experience backed by faster performance and a more capable imaging pipeline while retaining the convenience of a fixed-lens design.
ZEISS 24-600mm Superzoom Lens
The integrated ZEISS lens covers a 25x optical zoom equivalent to 24-600mm, capturing everything from wide-angle landscapes to distant wildlife, birds, aircraft and sports without changing lenses. Active image stabilisation supports handheld shooting throughout the zoom range, and proved particularly effective at the longest focal lengths during hands-on testing towards 600mm. The bright f/2.4-4 aperture and 11-blade diaphragm produce smooth background blur for portraits and close-up subjects. Autofocus, continuous shooting and subject recognition remain fully available across the zoom range, including at 600mm. Close-focusing has been refined to a maximum magnification of 0.42x at the wide end and 0.49x at telephoto, extending the camera's range to flowers and insects alongside distant wildlife.
Autofocus and Image Processing
The BIONZ XR processor works with a dedicated AI Processing Unit for faster subject recognition and more advanced tracking than previous RX10 models. Real-time Recognition AF detects humans, animals, birds, insects, vehicles and aircraft, with a newly added Auto mode, while continuous shooting reaches up to 30fps blackout-free with AF and AE tracking for fast-moving action. During hands-on testing, autofocus tracked birds and small mammals with confidence, and Bird Eye AF consistently locked onto subjects that would previously have needed more careful positioning.
Updated processing also improves colour reproduction and high ISO performance, and adds 12 Creative Looks, HEIF recording and lossless compressed RAW options. Expanded D-Range Optimiser controls tonal gradation more precisely, and the Soft Skin Effect has been refined for more natural portraits, together giving greater flexibility across capture and post-production.
Video Workflow
Video inherits features from the Cinema Line and Alpha cameras: 4K recording up to 120p (cropped), 4K60p without crop, S-Cinetone, S-Log3 and LUT preview for more efficient colour grading. A Digital Audio Interface supports compatible microphones, alongside USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen2, 10Gbps), 4K live streaming, compatibility with Sony's Creators' App and improved wireless transfer for a streamlined workflow from capture to delivery. A single SD card slot supports UHS-I and faster UHS-II media for improved write performance during burst shooting and high-quality video.
Refined Handling
A larger 3.68-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder replaces the RX10 IV's 2.35-million-dot finder, alongside a higher-resolution tilting touchscreen with the latest touch interface and vertical menu orientation. A dedicated Still, Movie and S&Q mode dial, AF-ON button, revised focus controls, USB-C Power Delivery and 5GHz Wi-Fi streamline day-to-day operation, bringing handling much closer to Sony's Alpha mirrorless cameras than previous generations. During hands-on use, Intelligent Auto proved capable for quick, high-quality results, while switching to more advanced shooting modes remained intuitive for photographers wanting greater creative control.
The weather-sealed body retains dedicated zoom, focus and aperture rings for direct control without relying on menus. Battery life is improved through the NP-FZ100 rechargeable battery,, extending endurance to up to 630 shots using the monitor, up from approximately 400 shots on the previous generation. Extensive customisation, direct lens controls and the integrated zoom combine to provide a familiar shooting experience while retaining the simplicity of a fixed-lens camera.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the Sony RX10 V best suited to?
Photographers and filmmakers who want premium image quality with the convenience of a fixed-lens camera. The 24-600mm zoom suits wildlife, birds, aviation, sport, travel and outdoor events where changing lenses is impractical.
Is the camera good for wildlife photography?
Yes. The integrated ZEISS 24-600mm f/2.4-4 lens, AI-powered Real-time Recognition AF for birds and animals, and blackout-free continuous shooting up to 30fps with AF and AE tracking remain fully available throughout the zoom range, including at 600mm, helping track distant wildlife with confidence.
How does the RX10 V compare with the RX10 IV?
It retains the same 20.1MP one-inch stacked sensor and ZEISS 24-600mm f/2.4-4 lens, adding a BIONZ XR processor, dedicated AI Processing Unit, expanded Real-time Recognition AF, 30fps continuous shooting, 4K/120p recording and updated handling with a larger electronic viewfinder and improved touchscreen.
Can this bridge camera replace an interchangeable lens camera?
For many photographers, yes. The integrated 24-600mm lens covers everything from wide-angle landscapes to distant wildlife without changing lenses, although an interchangeable lens system still offers greater flexibility for specialist work.

Yes. It supports 4K recording up to 120p, S-Cinetone, S-Log3, LUT preview and a Digital Audio Interface for compatible microphones, bringing professional video features closer to the mirrorless Alpha range.
Can I record RAW images?
Yes. The RX10 V supports lossless compressed RAW alongside HEIF and JPEG image formats.
Does it support live streaming?
Yes. The camera supports live streaming up to 4K30 via USB-C together with 5GHz Wi-Fi, making it suitable for live events, online presentations and remote content creation.

Our Verdict
The RX10 V demonstrates that there is still a place for premium bridge cameras alongside interchangeable lens systems. Sitting at the heart of the RX series between the pocket-sized RX100 and full-frame RX1 models, it combines premium image quality, an extensive zoom range and the convenience of a single integrated lens.
Rather than reinventing the RX10 formula, Sony has modernised it with faster processing, more intelligent subject tracking, advanced video tools and a more refined shooting experience while retaining the proven ZEISS 24-600mm lens. For birds, sport, travel, aviation and outdoor photography, carrying one camera instead of multiple lenses remains a compelling advantage.
If you’re upgrading from an existing camera, the improvements in autofocus, video capability and handling make the RX10 V a very worthwhile step forward. Park Cameras offers competitive trade-in options, making it easier to upgrade your existing equipment. Get a free instant quote today.
