Swarovski ST Balance 14-35x50 Spotting Scope Summary
The Swarovski ST Balance 14-35x 50 Spotting Scope is a compact scope, which features a cutting-edge image stabilisation system that removes shake from the moment you lift it. This means users can observe subjects at higher magnifications without the need for a tripod.
Effective image stabilisation is ideal for wildlife observation, conservation, fieldwork and general outdoor use where carrying a tripod is not always possible. This scope is from Swarovski’s Balance range, which includes angled and straight models, bringing high-quality optics into a smaller, more portable form factor.
The 14-35x zoom range provides the versatility to observe subjects from a distance, while the 50mm objective lens gathers enough light for a range of daytime conditions. Stabilisation activates instantly, which reduces the hesitation that is sometimes associated with spotting scope stabilisation systems. Just raise it, press the button, and the view settles down straight away.
The scope is very portable at just 268mm long and weighs around 1300g, while Swarovski’s optics deliver high clarity, colour accuracy and excellent detail. Light transmission is rated at 88%, which supports observation as light begins to fade, and it focuses down to 3.4 metres, so it can be used for closer subjects if required.
The ST Balance provides a lightweight experience for observation compared with traditional scopes, and is well suited to anyone who wants stable handheld optics with the reach of a higher-powered model.

Swarovski ST Balance 14-35x50 Spotting Scope in More Detail
How is the image stabilisation system?
The ST Balance features a stabilisation system, which removes shake as soon as you activate it. This makes a difference particularly at higher magnifications, as even small movements can be amplified.
By stabilising the image immediately, the scope provides a steady view without the need for a tripod, which can contribute to a more enjoyable viewing experience with quicker identification of subjects without needing additional support gear.
What can you view from a 14-35x range?
This variable magnification allows you to switch from a wider field of view at 14x to more detailed viewing at 35x. Increasing magnification reduces the field of view, so the image becomes narrower as you zoom in.
At 1000 metres the field of view ranges from 70m to 39m, which gives you flexibility for scanning wide areas or focusing in on distant detail, depending on the situation.
How is the 50mm objective image quality?
The 50mm lens allows plenty of light into the scope, and this contributes to a clear image in daylight and during early or late viewing sessions. The ST Balance also offers 88% light transmission, with an exit pupil from 3.6mm to 1.4mm depending on magnification. The result is accurate colour, strong clarity and reliable detail when working handheld.
Is this scope easy to use?
Yes. Weighing around 1300g and with a 268mm length, the ST Balance is manageable for most use cases. It features a one-button system to activate stabilisation, with a short minimum focus distance of 3.4m, and the straight eyepiece provides a direct viewing position for many users.
How does it fit into the range?
The AT/ST Balance range is focused on handheld stability, and both angled (AT) and straight (ST) versions provide image-stabilised viewing with lightweight construction and an advanced optical system. The ST version suits users who prefer a straight-through view when locating subjects quickly.
